Birkenstock Quality: Quality is our top priority. For our
leather models we use only cow leather which is 2.8 -3 millimeters
thick. As it is unsplit, all valuable qualities such as
the typical surface structure, toughness and longevity of
this natural material are preserved. Leather of this thickness
is not readily available everywhere. Due to the particular
breed and husbandry conditions of the cattle as well as
climatic conditions, only leather originating from Central
Europe meets our criteria. In addition, we only buy from
tanneries which comply with the strictest environmental
regulations. Moreover, Birkenstock's strict quality controls
guarantee that only pieces of leather without any defects
are used. Pieces having cicatisation caused by mosquito
or tick bites or thorn scratches are sorted out.
