Birki Schuh GmbH was founded in 1993 in Germany by Stephan
Birkenstock, who remains General Manager of the young Birkenstock family brand today. Birki's featured the famous cork-latex footbed from the beginning. It's initial
collection also featured professional and leisure time clogs made of ALPRO?-foam
(PU) with exchangeable, anatomically molded footbeds.
In 1995 Birki Schuh GmbH developed a unique method of
direct molding, which fused inseparably the upper material (Birko-Flor)
and footbed (ALPRO?-foam) of leisure sandals. The result was a highly-durable,
comfortable and lightweight sandal that was perfect for wearing at the swimming
pool, in the sauna, in the great outdoors.
In 1999 Birki Schuh GmbH was the first manufacturer worldwide
to develop a clog made of featherlight ALPRO?-cell (EVA)
style name: Fun Birki. In 2005 the Birkenstock Fun Birki received the
Red Dot Design Award for product design in New York. It remains
one of Birki's most popular styles worldwide.
In 2004 Birki created its first adjustable functional
styles with flip-over, removable Birkenstock heel strap, clip-on Birkenstock accessories and
removable instep straps among other things. Birki's also presented
completely self-contained kids catalogs for the first time. Through
today, the children's shoe segment within the Birki brand has
been a solid component of the worldwide Birki collection.
In 2007 a Birkenstock collection featuring our soft footbed was launched to great applaud. Developed on the basis of an anatomically molded
cork-latex center, the soft footbed features a properly sized,
permanently elastic latex cushion for incredibly soft comfort.
Through today, Birki offers fashionable sandals, slippers, and clogs in a
variety of colors and designs for every member of the family. The areas of
application are as diverse as the styles themselves.
